A WooCommerce → Shopify Re-Platform Without Losing Rankings
Led a full WooCommerce-to-Shopify migration for a live e-commerce brand, preserving SEO rankings and Core Web Vitals through the transition.
The Challenge
The client's WooCommerce store had outgrown what the platform could support cleanly — theme and plugin conflicts were slowing releases, and the business wanted Shopify's storefront reliability without losing years of accumulated search rankings and organic traffic.
My Role
Owned the migration end-to-end: auditing the existing WooCommerce catalog and content, building the new Shopify theme in Liquid, and executing the cutover.
Approach
Mapped every WooCommerce product, collection, and content URL to its Shopify equivalent before writing a line of theme code, so redirects could be planned rather than patched afterward. Rebuilt the storefront as custom Liquid sections matching the existing brand rather than a stock theme, then staged the cutover with redirect rules and search-console monitoring ready before DNS switched over.
Technical Challenges
SEO-safe re-platforming is unforgiving of mistakes — a missed redirect or a mismatched product handle silently costs ranked pages. The catalog also had product variants and metafields that don't map 1:1 between WooCommerce and Shopify, requiring custom metafield structures to preserve product data without manual re-entry.
Outcome
The store moved to Shopify with organic rankings and Core Web Vitals intact, and the client gained a platform that's materially easier to maintain and extend for future campaigns.
